Hello,

Currently, I have a three-year-old Toshiba notebook, running Windows XP. It's getting very slow running the myriad of MS patches and is up to quite a challenge trying to run all of today's programs. I'm fed up with it. I tried switching to Linux, but it was far too limited for a USEABLE desktop environment. So, I've decided to go back to Mac. (My first computer was a Mac LC II, back in 1991)

I want a notebook, and the Apples are very portable. The quesiton is, should I get a 15" or 17", or should I wait for a newer/improved model? I probably won't be purchasing one for several months. Most likely early, next year.

Since I am a student, I can get a one-year membership to the Apple Developer Connection for $99 and get any PowerBook at a steeply discounted price. Even cheaper than the regular educational discount. (17" for $2399)

SO, if you were in my shoes, what would you do?

And, just for kicks... here's a poll

shaun3000: Welcome to MacNN. If I were you, I would wait for the White Spots problems of the 15" PB to be remedied before getting one. Since Apple has a tendency to release new/updated hardware at its MacWorld, I would say to wait til MacWorld January 6-9 2004. I have this feeling that Steve Jobs & Co. will have something good in store for us. If nothing else, then maybe faster processors in the PowerBook line. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. It probably wouldn't be until late January that I could get one, anyway. The talk of G5 PowerBooks is interesting, but I don't think I have any real use for a 64 bit notebook. Of course, I don't have any use for a 17" screen, either, but I still want it!

CrackedButter: From what I understand, the white spots don't show up for a while, so who knows!
