Hi folks:

I have a 500mhz white ibook..2 years old.

Its been suchan awesome machine..but just this past week I've noticed a burning rubber smell comeing from it.

Anything I should be on the look out for?

Sometimes I can smell the burning rubber smell from across the room, but most of the time you have to sniff right by the keyboard.

I no longer leave it in sleep mode and shut it down..any other suggestions?

My iBook is the same way. I'll open it up in the morning and sometimes it'll smell kinda funky. I wonder if its because my hands are dirty? I have to work on a bunch of other computers during the day so I'm sure my hands are filthy by the time I get back home, maybe that is the cause? Just know your not alone, but I still have no clue why it smells funny.

The smell is starting to get worse.. I'm going to drop it off at TekServe here in NYC and see what they have to say about it...it smells like old burnt rubber...and is getting worse so i have it turned off and the battery not connected.

I backed up all the files on it onto an external drive so I'm prepared for a hard drive failure, but hope its something minor.

I have a 40 gig drive installed...it came with a 10 gig which I still have...I'll take that in and if there is a problem with the 40 gig drive I'll just put in the 10 again if thats the problem.
