My power cord refuses to light up.
Do these things just stop working
or is it a fault that can be remedied.

I have tried multiple sockets and the
charging light will not light up on any
of them - direct to the wall or with
a strip with multiple sockets on it.

Has been no drops or tugs on it ?

Yes this is fairly common. You can get a new one for free from Apple if you have Applecare or your machine is still under warranty.

My brick is ticking !

When plugged into the wall the
power 'brick' is making a clicking
noise repeatedly.

Any ideas why ?

Um, a side effect from it being dead perhaps.
