Finaly decided that I should get the iBook, i was considering the 12" powerbook, but realized that I really won't be doing much in the way of power and the reason i was going to get it was just because it looks cool. Two questions though. First, with the display firmware hack will I be able to make my larger display the primary display and have it a high resolution with the iBook closed? Second, I want to get the edu. discount but my debit card has a spending limit of $750 and my credit line on my credit card is $900, and the Apple Store does not take multiple cards. i want a BTO iBook (30GB is too small) so i don't think I can go to the physical store. Is my only choice the Student loan then pay it off in a few days? What have your experences been with the student loan and how hard is it to get? i guess that was more than 2 questions but help will be apreaciated.

I got an apple consumer loan, which I would assume is similar, but it was very easy & it only took a few minutes to get the clearance.

If you call the issuing bank, you can usually do a "limited time" spending limit increase on a debit card. I had this happen when purchasing a computer from macconnection.com -- the cost of the computer exceeded my debit card spending limit. I just called my bank and they increased it by $1000 (or so) for 48 hours.

Well I broke down. I decided that 30GB was still more than my old laptop (4GB) and that I really didn't need blueetooth. I figure that if I need extra storage I can always use the iPod I plan to get after I pay off my credit card. So what I did was drive down to the Northridge store and picked up a stock 12" iBook G4 w/ Airport Extreme. In fact I'm typing on it right now. The Apple Store had no problem paying with two cards. I have only been using this for about an hour and I love it, for some reason is seems much more responsive than the one I was playing with in the store (also a G4) and I haven't even upgraded the RAM yet! Also beats having to wait so many wees to get my iBook. I couldn't be happier. I am still curious about the Student Loan though, is seem that I wasn't the only one who didn't quite understand it.

Yea, i was playing around for a while too, that 17" is huge. Well I got .mac but I didn't pickup apple care. I may get it when I can afford it, plus I can go to the store any time this year if something goes wrong. My total came out to $1,231.83. That was the stock 12", Airport Extreme, and .mac. I'm going to pick up a 512MB stick of ram from Crucial after my credit card recovers a little. I don't regret it, like I said, since I am going to get an iPod in the future HDD space shouldn't be much of a problem. It feels good to go back to mac after so many year in windows. My last mac was an 8MHz Mac Classic running system 6!

Just Bought a 12" iBook G4 at the Panther premiere and love it! 10% off with applecare, airport extreme and some (childrens) software. Just picked up travel speakers and a mouse for it today.

Wife wanted a portable dvd player for our little one, and I jumped on the opportunity to throw more money apple's way.

Portable dvd player, iTunes, kids software (and mine). Perfect!

Yea, why get a plain portable DVD player when you can get an iBook. So much more value to be had. Probably better battery life too.

I've decided to go and pick up an iBook too. 12-inch with AE and maxed out hard disk and memory. Can't wait for it to ship.

Seems like a lot of people were on the edge on buying the PB12 or this, and I was one of them. I started looking at Macs about a month ago, and was pretty set on the PB12, but as soon as the G4 iBooks came out, it was a fairly easy decision. I need durability and value more than I need power, so I'm really happy Apple came out with the new iBooks just as I was looking.

It'll be my first apple in more than ten years! I started out on an Apple IIgs around 1990, and completely skipped the 68Ks. I've been managing with my 5 year old sony picturebook for a while, and it feels like its on its last legs (you know there's a problem when a tiny notebook is louder than the minitower beside it) so I'm back to Apple after a decade away.

Can't wait!

I remember the last mac I had, it was an 8MHz Mac Classic. That lasted me for way longer than it should have, I was all PC after that. Now I'm back with my shiny new iBook! I'm surprised that more people don't know about how great macs are.
