what is the maximum amount of ram for the new g4's. apple sells them with no more than 628mb. can you really throw in a 1 gig (and i read the ram is 2100ddr, but when i went through crucial's site - it said apple ibook 800mhz was pc133 (and up to 512))

i been doing some research on the ibook g4 ram, and it is DDR266 PC2100, which is the same as the powerbook 12" and some other model.

So is it technically right that you can use a 1gb PC2100 DDR266 in the ibook g4 and it should support it?

the ibooks have 128mb of ram soldered to the logic board. and yes, the ibook g4 takes the same ddr ram that the pb 12" does, but the thinking is that if youre going to pay 1100 for a comp, then you are somewhat unlikely to pay 600 for a ram stick. there is only one slot on the ibooks, so whatever ram you buy is added to the 128 built in. therefore, you cannot upgrade a 384 mb ram ibook by buying a 256 stick. you have to get the 512.

whoof that was long winded

from that pdf you linked to
Maximum supported RAM capacity is 640 MB and is limited by the space available for the SO-DIMM.
must be some way to get to that space. MOD?

did you notice that the airport is in there sideways to the old way? odd
