I would like to get some opinions about an upgrade I am thinking about.

I have an iBook 700 with CD-ROM. I still have 2.5 years left on Applecare. MCE Technologies will upgrade the CD-ROM to a Combo Drive for $249.00. I know it is a bit steep

I talked to them and asked if they installed it would my warranty be void. They said no. I really don't believe it. I contacted the Apple Store a few weeks back and they told me that I couldn't upgrade the CD-ROM without voiding the warranty.

I really don't need another laptop right now. I could sell this one but I would still be out another couple hundred dollars or more to get another iBook. I would love to have a Combo Drive for watching DVD's on the go. I don't want to void my warranty but I can't get a straight answer.

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
