Sigh.... I love my new 15" PB and I hate it at the same time. Not only do i have the white spots, half my screen is dim, i get white shadows when using an external monitor, poor battery life (down from 3.5Ah to 3.3Ah). Now the bottom portion of the aluminum is starting to buckle and bend in. The Aluminum around the button that opens up the powerbook is bent inwards. I can't see how it was bent because of me, because it doesn't exactly require 10 tons of pressure to open it. And the aluminum around the superdrive slot is in a wavey shape. ugh!

I know how you feel. I finally got my powerbook back from applecare today. They replaced the LCD and the keyboard. No white spots as of yet, but the stupid keyboard is spongy!!! The right 1/2 of it seems loose. On top of that, applecare didn't even snap the thing into place fully. They say they test all these machines. I don't get it. I'm really getting pissed. This is my first mac, and right now it seems like it's going to be my last. At least my old dell laptop went forever without the need for repair. And that one was $1000 less!!!

so far, they've replaced the logic board and the keyboard. the lcd isn't in yet. the caps lock key is now lower on one side. numbers 2-9, Z, the arrow keys, question mark no longer light up. i'm tempted to call my credit card company and get my money back. not really in the mood to through all the grief with apple at an ATTEMPT to get a replacement. really thinking about getting the 17" PB.

I know the feeling. How do you get your money back through your credit card company though?

What is the given reason for these white spots?

My Warped PowerBook

i rarely even touch my PB. I use an Apple bluetooth keyboard, a trackball and tablet. i've used the superdrive about a half dozen times so far. the only time i touch it is when i pack it up for work in a timbuk2 sleeve that makes no contact with that part of the Powerbook.

Hi,

Thanks for putting the pic up. Man that is way warped... I would complain.

I wanted to get a PB 15" 1.25Ghz, but i might wait until rev B or something... is it likely Apple will release rev B before March next year (when school starts again)?

Uhhhh ... I don't see the warp ... am I blind?

I managed to put a definite bow in my FW iBook by grabbing it by the palm rests, with the screen open, standing up (e.g., from the couch) ... almost snatching up the iBook ... which over time bent the case, from front to back.

Applecare replaced the case and the CD drive. Still doesn't fit quite right. Now I'm a bit more gentle

I think I see it. It looks bent back, above the right hand portion of the slot.

It looks like a bump in the front part above the superdrive. I can feel one right there on mine but its so small that I can't see it. It seems like apple cramed everything into these things. With no space to spare inside these things its a wonder everything fits on the majority of the powerbooks that are manufactured.

Could be. If that is the warp we're talking about, and we can barely see it in an extremely close photo, then I can't believe it's very bad.

True, this is an expensive machine, and we'd like our machines to stay perfect. But I just don't believe that's possible.

I think this is the Powerbook equivalent of a scratched iBook. I used to have several iBooks. They are perfect out of the box, but then they get slight scratches with regular use. I finally just accepted this and considered it part of the character of my machine.

I now have a 12" Powerbook and it's got a slight bend in the aluminum above the button the opens the lid. It still bothers me, but I think it's normal. The machine is made of metal, after all...and metal does bend and dent.

If it was the result of a fall or accident I would agree with you, but when you buy a product and it arrives at your doorstep like that it should be without flaws. The warp he's talking about is not normal and it should be fixed.

My 17 has a slight wave on the right hand side. Nothing I would complain about... You have to understand aluminum, think of a Coke can the slightest pressure when the can is empty will cause a ding. If the tech that worked on your PB stood it on its end while he or she worked on it that could have caused your ding. Better yet it may have happened during reassembly. The top part has metal tabs that need to fit perfectly for the top to go on. They might have bent it trying to get the unit to go back together.
From personal experience, Apple Care either handles your laptop with utmost care or they could care less as it appears in your case. If you call them and be nice they will take care if it. I have a TI book that ended up scratched and they repleced the part they damaged.
