hello all. i'm new to the forums here, and new to Mac as well. So far, i've had nothing but a good experience. i do have a question for you guys though. and i tried the search feature, but it wasn't working, so i apologize if this has come up already. anyway, what memory works well with the new 15" powerbook 1.25 ghz? i got mine with 512 in one slot, so i could upgrade. but i've seen some hints that they are picky on ram. does EDGE or Viking work ok? or should i go with Kingston (which is more expensive)? thanks for any advice you may have.

I bought 512 sticks from Crucial. It is my understanding that Micron owns Crucial, and Micron provides the RAM sticks that come pre-installed in current AlBooks.
A 512 stick costs $145 or so... not the best price on the web, but pretty good for good quality RAM.

I'd recommend them.

Plus delivery is fast and free.

I would go with www.datamem.com There was a slight issue with Panther, the new 15" Powerbooks, and full spec ram that did not work with the two in combination. It is a known issue and has been addressed so no worries. The aforementioned DMS sells stuff that will work and has a great warrantee which they actually honor, unlike some other companies (OWC=crapweasels).

Happy shopping and enjoy your new Powerbook!

Yes, I installed a few DMS dimms into the new 15" Powerbooks and absolutely no problems with Panther.

The crucial memory is working fine. I've been using it with 1 Gig for about 3 weeks. I've got Panther installed... and as expected, everything is really zippy. Definitely worth the upgrade. Again, I chose crucial because I was concerned with compatibility and quality. Everything seems to have worked out well for me. I had a bad experience with OWC a year or so ago where one of the 512 chips that I ordered for my Pismo was bad. They replaced, it but it was a hassle sending it back, etc. Crucial ships fast and free if your purchase is $x.00 and above.

I don't want to sound like a commerical, but I definitely recommend them. You'll pay a little more than other places, though.

I have a 15" 1Ghz Albook and I'm doing stuff like Fireworks, Photoshop, and the occasional round of Unreal 2003.
I always use the 'trace bitmap' option in Flash as a good test for CPU/RAM performance... it definitely sped that up.

It's a good upgrade.
