but then iTunes does not automatucally open and when I click on iTunes the iPod dissapears from the dekstop and disconnects and just charges. Mind you all my songs have been erased, and I have reset the thing a bunch of times. I didn't know where to post the problem because there is noiPod forum that I could find.

It has only been used with my 17" and was workign fine, until I didn't use it for a couple of days.

Thanks!

Does the Ipod show up in Itunes? You need to connect the Ipod after you start Itunes. Go to your preferences pane and change the setting to open Itunes when your Ipod is connected. You can also set the Ipod to update automatically or manually.

My ipod does not show up in iTunes, and if I open It tunes and then connect the ipod it does not appear on the desktop. If I have it plugged in and it shows up on the dekstop and then I opne iTunes it dissapears....

I have no clue what is going on.

i've had something like that happen before. as far as i know you have 2 choices - plug in your ipod, open iTunes and on the bottom right hand side of the itunes window is a small button and when you hover over it, it says ipod settings (or something similar). in there you can choose to have itunes open automatically when you plug in your ipod. the problem is though that it disappears from the desktop then. i use my ipod for back up regularly so i usually just leave that option switched off *which is choice #2).

i'm sure apple in their wisdom did it like that for a reason, but it doesn't make much sense to me!

hope that makes sense!

I tried what you said janmc but the thing is, is that iTunes does not have an ipod button anymore in the corner. When I plug in the iPod it shows up on the dektop for a second and then dissapears... What is firewire mode?
