hello all,
sorry if this is a repeat post, but none of the posts i found, seemed to answer this.
got a Tibook 1Ghz a while ago and noticed that the volume level on it is really low. checked all the usual places on it to make sure the volume levels were set to high. using earphones works well and volume is good but without the "phones", volume is way to low.
not wanting to listen to music or dvd's.... want it for ichat, as right now, can bearly hear the person i'm speaking with.
cheers.

It is the same on the 12" PB Rev B. The volume is low as well. I shouldn't really complain due to the small speakers. But I do prefer to have higher volume levels for iChat or DVD when needed.

If this is due the speakers not being able to pump out anymore volume, then that's just crap. the powerbook is an amazing machine and should have better speakers than the ones in it at the moment. on first playing some music through them, i was shocked as to how bad they are. i expect better from apple.

I agree....
My Ghz Tibook (1 year old today!) has speaker volume that is arguably low even when maxed-out.
In fact, the first 7 or so bars on the screen volume indicator yield almost no sound at all, which doesn't leave much room for volume increase at the high end. However, I've found that for most things, the max volume is acceptable.

I returned my DOA TiBook for a 17" AlBook (rev. A). Speakers are much better here.

my friend also has the exact same Tibook and the volume level is better. i wonder if there's a hack for this???? something must be capping out the volume level other than the speakers themselves.
