Hi
I am doing a research assignment for a laptop
computr project/review and need to know the viewable
dimensions (height and width)on the 17" Al Powerbook.

While APPLE posts the machine dimensions and diagonal
screen measurement it DOES NOT provide the viewable
screen dimension in height and width.

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

Well, do you know the pythagorean theorem ?? The screen is 16:10 ratio (as represented by the 1440 x 900 pixels).

If width X = 16 and height Y = 10, and diagonal Z =?? and the Pythagorean theorem tells us that

X^2 + Y^2 = Z^2

then

(16)^2 + (10)^2 = Z^2 or
256 + 100 = Z ^2 or
Z^2 = 356 or
Z = sqrt(356) or
Z = 18.86796

So, if Z = 18.86796 when X = 16 and y = 10 then when Z = 17, X will = 14.41597 and Y will = 9.009982

So, the PB 17's screen should be about 14.4 inches wide and about 9 inches tall.

Just looking at the physical dimensions of the powerbooks and considering the frame of the screen is around .5".

15.4 inches wide, 10.2 inches deep
14.4 x 9.2 is the approximation by subtracting 1" from the wide and depth..

Krusty's however is more precise and has a much better memory than I.
