Hi there,

This isn't really a powerbook question, but I've been reading this group for some time contemplating a new 15" but am not ready to make the plunge. I felt more comfortable posting this question here, than in the iMac forum. It's prolly not iMac specific, anyway.

I convinced my buddy to get a brand spanking new iMac (both of us have only had PC's) and he installed an Airport card. He is able to connect to his 802.11g cable modem/router with his PC without any trouble. He says the iMac isn't connecting.

This will be my first experience trying to help him on his Mac and I am hoping someone can give me some typical problems/solutions making that initial connection.

Kind of a vague question, but if someone can give me a place to start I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Mike

Mhodos -

My first thought is that the Airport card is either not properly
seated and/or the antenna connector has not been attached. Both of
these things must happen for a signal to reach his Apple. Is his Apple Airport software installed and up to date? MAKE SURE HE HAS DESIGNATED AIRPORT ON in his Airport software. These are the easy solutions...

Generally the Apple (or PC for that matter) will pick up a signal from the router if the Airport card in the Apple is functioning. I must assume your router is working since a signal is being sent to the PC. (I'm assuming the PC is also hooked up wirelessly.

If this doesn't solve the problem give us more specific detail
as to router type or if PC is hooked up by ethernet cable etc.

I've worked with B and G wireless for over a year now so I know a little about it. Hope this helps !
