I've read that if you are operating your PowerBook in "desktop" mode for extended periods of time, it's wise to remove the battery.

As I've found myself walking around less and less with my PowerBook lately, I've removed the battery and am operating exclusively on AC power. Hopefully I will be able to prolong the battery's life somewhat.

My question is, when the battery is removed, should I store it in a fully charged state, a fully depleted state, or does it even matter?

Thanks!

It's optimal to store LiIon batteries at 40% charge. DO NOT store it empty, that can cause irreversible damage. Storing it full isn't the best, but not horrible.

It actually doesn't really matter if you have it in the PowerBook since the newer PB's are designed to operate exclusively on AC power when the battery is charged. If you have it fully charged and keep the battery in the bay, you can see it dropping from 100% to 99% etc.. that means it will not be recharged again until it's about 95% full. This depends on which PB you got of course, I don't think my first gen iceBook had this feature because the battery indecator is constantly in 100% so it must be recharged over and over again.. and the battery died about 2 years later. (Most Li-Ion batteries will die in about 2-3 years anyways, even it's not being used.)
