i am thinking about sending my 12" to applecare after continuing hissing noise from the speaker and now, keeping losing sound after several times a day (have to manually restart several times to get it back).

I have setup my password on my account, should i make it an auto-login before sending mine for service? Do i really have to do that because i want to keep some privacy and i don't want to bother delete files.

When you send it in, they will ask for you to write your password in on a piece of paper. Don't worry about privacy for one reason.

Physical access=total access in the absence of encryption.

If you give them your book, they can access everything. But think about it - they have a pile of powerbooks to repair. That is what they do. All day. Every day. You'd have to have some pretty fascinating stuff on you drive to make them stop and give anything a second look.
