Does the iSkin (for the Dual USB iBooks/15" Titanium PBs) fit the new 12" iBook G4s? Tia.

I'm nearly 100% positive that the iSkins will fit the 12" and 14" iBook G4s.

No. It is slightly different. Although I believe they have an updated one for the G4 iBooks and AlBooks (if not, it's coming soon)

As stated on the iSkin website, the iSkin *will* fit all new iBooks.

Unfortunately, blue and clear are on backorder.

I don't know if I would like the feel of rubber on my keyboard, the iBook has such a nice keyboard I wouldn't want to miss out on the experience of typing on it.

I feel the same way. But I eat around my iBook all the time, and I don't want to get food in it.

That's a good reason to get it, but I think i'll just be careful and risk it, I type a lot and how a keyboard feel is very important to me, tough it does seem to be a good product if you have a tendency to drop stuff in the keyboard.

what have people's experiences been with the iskin?

how does it feel to type on it? does it offer any real protection against spills, etc.?

i'm a very happy recent switcher and want to make sure my 14" ibook is as protected as possible.

thanks everyone!

I got an iSkin for my 12" G4, and had continual static electricty problems with it. If I lifted the iSkin, I could hear the slight crackle of static and if I lifted it too fast, the ibook would hard freeze.

I contacted the company regarding this issue and even posted on this board to see if this was common or not. I had never heard of this sort of thing before and apparently, neither had anyone else.

I even tried spraying Static Guard on it, which helped, a little, but not completely. I eventually returned the iSkin after about a month (thank god they took it back.)

I'm pretty sure i'm an isolated case. i haven't heard of anyone else having this problem, but it might be something to watch out for if you do decide to get an iSkin.

I'm actually glad tho. Personally, I didn't like typing on it. It slowed me down and made me more prone to mistyping. However, it was amazing to see how much dust and chaff it accumulated and prevented from going into my keyboard.

Actually I've heard about the static problem before.. even seen reports of it happening with powerbooks and whatnot...

That sucks, more power to ya. Personally I'd just go commando and live it down. $50 every few years for a new keyboard isn't a huge deal and the dirt + grime that gets into the keyboard won't get into the laptop...

However if you spill into the keyboard.. well yeah I can see what you mean hehe.

I have an iBook G4/12", that's using the ProTouch (and not the newer ProTouch PB). Its a darker shade of blue than the one seen on their website, but it fits the iBook perfectly.

I, like many others, prefer the natural feel of the iBook's keyboard (which is a significant improvement from the spongy versions of the earlier models), but have had to use the iSkin for practical purposes. As a friend put it bluntly, the iSkin is exactly like a condom -- it will take some time getting used to. It took me about 3 days to adjust to the feel of the iSkin, which reduced my typing performance by at least half. But gradaully, as you become more comfortable with it (or, it seems that if the skin oil build-up is high enough), then it feels like a second "natural" skin.

I've been considering the purchase of the iskin for my 12" ibook G4.

I have a question for current user of iskin:
Do you have to remove the iskin when close the laptop? If so, what's the best way to store it?

If you don't have to remove it when closing the ibook, will it leave marks on the screen?

Hi, jane_winty. Yes, if you don't want marks on your lcd screen, you'll have to remove it before you shut the lid. I store mine, semi-rolled up and sometimes folded up, in my one of my laptop bag's zippered smaller compartments.

I leave the iSkin on all the time. The only problem is that you will be getting visible marks around the LCD (on the white border), and probably some not-so-visible markings on the LCD itself. I think they're mostly from the skin oil residue left on the iSkin. These are easy enough to remove (I use artwork erasers), but they can get annoying if you want your iBook to be pristine clean all the time.
