Hi,
I have a rev-A 12 inch powerbook.
After panther was running smoothly for 2 weeks (i dont know if it is panther related), the hard drive would start clicking once per second. It sounded like it was very busy, but always with a rythmic click. It would start happening sometimes during boot up, or after 30 minutes. I did an archive and (re)-install, and the problem came back a day later, and then a clean install, and it happened during the install.
Trying to backup my data, it even happened in firewire target disk mode.
I called apple support (in japan. they had lovely english support). I told them about this problem, and complained about a few other things. All my rubber feet had fallen off, my powerbook is so hot that it could burn me!, the screen/case was warped and didnt close properly.
They arranged for the powerbook to be picked up the next day - last thursday afternoon. They said these cases could sometimes take a couple of weeks.
To my suprise, it got delivered back to me on monday morning.
Apple replaced the logic board, hard drive, battery, AND the rubber feet!
Amazing and fast service from Apple Japan. It was only gone 1.5 business days.
I am very happy, and will be purchasing applecare.
Makes me happy to be an apple user.
