I thought of posting on the Apple forum but speculation may get me banned over there. So utlimately how far can the G4 go in the last revision of Powerbooks before the G5? Is the next revision expected to be a 1.6 Ghz G4?

Nobody knows and there is almost no point in speculating. This discussion has already been beaten to death, run a search for it.

Having said that, the G4 is still a damn fast processor, you can probably expect a few more iterations of powerbook with a G4 in it before a G5.
