I'm looking at the following deals:

iBook 14.1 933mhz, 680mg ram, 80gb HD, airport, and superdrive for $1,739 U.S. from MCE.

OR

12in PB, 1ghz, 256meg ram, 80gb HD, airport, and superdrive for $1,950 (includes tax and edu discount)

My question: is it worth the extra $200 for a smaller screen, DVI, audio in, 67mhz and double cache? The DVI means nothing to me but the rest, maybe. I do like the 14.1 size, but I want the better value.

Oh, and is the MCE drive going to reliable? It says it is bootable and compliant with iTunes and iDVD. I don't know if it supports finder burn though. DVD-Ram would be nice too.

I don't know about the MCE drive, but I would take a 12" PB over a 14" iBook. I value portability highly, and nothing beats the 12" PB in that regard. You could always get a nice big external monitor for a dual display setup later on. Then, you have the best of both worlds with lots of screen space while at your desk while maintaining total portability. That's just my preference, though.

Yes, and in addition to that...

The 12" iBook G4 800 with Superdrive is $1369 and that's with 640 MB DDRRAM and 40 GB HD. Also, Airport Extreme Card is $95 extra.

fanboy, That's $581 less than the 12" PowerBook G4 w/ Superdrive that you quoted

or you can go with the 80GB HD on the above for $1564

Just to add to this, we have both a 12" PB (rev. A) and a new 12" iBook G4 in my dept. While the PB is very stylish, I think I actually prefer the iBook ... it somehow just feels right, a little more robust, etc.. The new, more matte, finish on the iBook, looks a little less "toy-like" and tougher than previous models, and the keyboard is just as good. I don't actually *use* either, because I still find the 12" (1024x768) too small, and need the 15"PB.

But I'd probably go for the iBook over the small PB, if I were in the market (and money isn't the deciding factor for me).

I said from MCE......they offer a $200 superdrive replacement. You need to read these posts a little more closely.
