Just got a replacement 512 stick of ram and I want to stress test it to be sure it really does work. I was having intermittent failures waking from sleep but not predictably. Any suggestions on tests I can run to test the new module?

Just run the hardware test CD that came with your Powerbook.

I really wish something like MemTest86 existed for the Mac. I don't trust a 15 minute test on half a gig of memory. I might, if the memory had ECC checking and such built in.

Just run any memory intensive app like photoshop or a graphics based game.
Tried to play Warcraft after installing 512 chip and kept crashing every 5-10 minutes.

you remind me that I read somewhere that Apple recommends running the freeware altivec fractal as a stressor but I don't recall if it was for ram or vram. i will try that. Photoshop and other graphic apps work fine so far and i have been trying all kinds of sleep modes and switching power supply duriing sleep - which used to crash my mac - and all that seems fine. So, I think I have a good stick...

It sounds like your RAM is fine, I just got a new eMac in at my school and the thing booted into a kernel panic. That was fun...
