Has anyone heard of, or noticed themselves any heat related problems with the 900 12" iBooks?
It just seems to be running hotter than when I got it about 3 weeks ago. Nothing going wrong and it isn't acting up, it just seems to be hot on the left side. On the under side it is almost what I would call very hot.
Oddly the fan isn't on all the time.
The only thing I did to the machine was install a piece of 64MB PC 100 ram in it while I wait for my 512 to get in. But it should use either 133 or 100 right?
Thanks in advance for assistance.

The hard drive is under the left palm rest, and is generally the biggest source of heat. This is normal.
RAM shouldn't cause any noticeable heat difference.

Well that's good to hear. I know that laptops can run hot, the old compaq I had could fry an egg.
So the fan is a harddrive cooler or does it re-route to the processor?
I mean it's running fine and everything, just want to know if there were any known issues with heat. We have a 12" PB as well and it gets pretty hot, but I know it's gonna.
Thanks for the reply.

My iBook 900 runs hot quite a lot but thats only when its at a mates house on his bed abusing his adsl connection so the harddrive is always in use, I hardly hear the fan though.

So, you're on the bed with your mate, too?

nah, his room is real small so you can only fit one chair in his room and his bed so unless i want to stand up the whole time i sit there.
(well aware this could also be taken in a sexual way but just NO!)

The fan is for the processor, located by the vents near the screen hinge. The hard drive just gets cooled by the vent on the left side of the iBook, but it doesn't do an amazing job, IMHO.
