So I dropped my 15" AlBook. Even though it was in its bag, that apparently wasn't enough and both the front left corner and the bottom half of the DVD drive slot is dented. The front left is dented enough to separate the seam and give it a little gap off to the left, while the DVD drive isn't so bad that I can't get CDs in and out, but I have to use slightly more force than normal to slip it past the tight part (doesn't scratch anything, though). The problem is that, since I've dropped it the DVD drive won't play any DVDs and I've noticed the fan coming on a LOT more. We got AppleCare when we bought the computer, so I was wondering if AppleCare coverse this kinda thing since it was my fault that I dropped it.

Bummer.... Sorry to hear about your powerbook. The Warranty does not cover accidental damage....the repair costs will probably be pretty high also....

I'm not advocating lying to apple, but you might be able to fudge another reason for the damage. Otherwise, yeah, most warranties do not cover accidental damage such as dropping or spilling.

AppleCare does not cover accidental damage; it covers manufacturers defects only.

As to fudging another reason for the problem, if it's obvious that it's been dropped, then it obviously won't get fixed under AppleCare.

Nope, they won't

Might want to get a hard case (I did for this very reason), or maybe accidental damage insurance:
