I recieved my 15" Albook 1.25 with a gig of RAM on Thursday. I took a to Portland this weekend (which meant a car trip with the Powerbook too) and I can honestly say this is the best Mac I have ever bought (a honor that used to be held by my PM 7300).
Apple sent me this machine to replace my problematic TiBook 1 ghz. The machine is far more durable, and I'm not afraid to take it anywhere with me. It's also far faster than my Ti.
My only complaint is that it is a bit low on battery life. The backlit keyboard also acts a bit funny, but works well overall. Sometimes there is a delay in it coming on, and on Friday I couldn't get it to come on until I logged out. It operated normally in the car however (when it got dark it came on).
For those interested, I have no white spots or hardware/cosmetic defects what so ever.
If you're thinking about buying this machine, go for it!
BTW: Apple appears to be pre-installing Panther now. The restore DVD is also Panther. Apple used to provide upgrade CD's with the 15".

D'oh! I got my Aluminum 15" book 48 hours ago and it still had the Panther upgrade CDs! Hope that doesn't mean I'll be getting white spots soon too!
But other than that, the machine does rock. And, they keyboard is really nice, I like it a lot better than on my 800 Mhz DVI G4 PowerBook...I'm quite the typist, so it's nice to have a keyboard with good action.

I love mine. I actually named my HD dream machine. My first mac and I love it. They only gave me a burnt disc with mine, I am guessing it is my restore disc.

I'm glad you guys are enjoying your new 15inch Al. But most people didn't have the white spots until maybe a few days or weeks after use. So... I won't say no to it just yet... maybe after a few months, and you still don't have any white spots, than I would say you should be safe...

Yep.
I own a 15" AlumBook and quite impressed with it. Used to own a 12" Powerbook but traded it in for the 15" and the increase in screen real estate is enormous, it's wonderful.
The speakers are a little weak, IMHO, but quite impressive for their wafer-thin size.
And I can tell it's that extra bit thicker (0.1 inch) than the TiBooks.

Cheers,
Nick.
