I wanted to calibrate my battery so I had to run it down, I figured I can burn it up fast and I wanted to make my Pbook really work (15" Albook 1.25GHZ) I proceeded to open damn near every application that I had to include some real heavy hitters. (ie VPC 6 (windows was running some crap too), Photoshop, idvd, iphoto, imovie, Quark, I could go on and on) some of them I just open others I made do some tasks. I also mad it install a large program. Overall I have over 45 applications open and I was really pushing it. Now granted I set out what I wanted to do (burn down the battery) and the machine got hot for the first time, but only a few times did it really slow down. It did not like when I was jamming to itunes and playing a DVD. But what do you expect running almost 50 apps. Like I said I was really pushing this machine and I am very impressed at its performance.

That's incredible.

How much RAM did you have?

I just ordered a 1.33 GHZ 17" Powerbook. You are making me excited! Wow!

Nice! That's what I ordered as well. I thought about paying a lot more and getting 1.5 or 2 GB, but I'll just wait for the price to come down to about $150 per single GB chip and max the RAM out while I hock my current chips.

Did you fill up your RAM entirely?

That's probably the slow down you felt. Virtual Memory...arghhh.

I think I made the right choice now.

As I watched in the activity viewer a few times I got down to only a few MBs left available. When I saw the real slow down I was in other apps and wasn't able to see the viewer but I'm sure your right. I am going to do the same thing when the GB chips drop in price, that will be very nice

Yeah I got a 15" Aluminum about 48 hours ago...it is much cooler, temperature wise, than my 800 Mhz DVI G4 PowerBook. The keyboard is a lot nicer, too. And iSync and Bluetooth work great with my T68i mobile phone too!

I just hope I don't see these horrible white spots everyone is talking about! I'd be crushed.

Oh and yeah, performance basically is great. It's the first time where running OS X on my personal machine (as opposed to some dual processor behemoth) that I've felt the whole thing is certifiably snappy.

Oh I've got 512 MB RAM and the 4200 RPM 80 gig drive, 1.25 Ghz.

OS X can REALLY handle a load. I've tried something similar on my 333 Mhz PBG3 (192 RAM) and was amazed at how well it could handle it. FAR better than OS 9, which would have hocked and died on any three of the apps I was running.

And some people still think OS9 is more responsive than OSX...

lol this is one of the traits of modern macs in general. Provided you have a good gb or ram or so it's really hard to bog them down

I ran my 15" AlBook really hard today just so it would heat up. It was 25 DEGREES here in Milwaukee today, so I needed a leg warmer
It's just an ordinary day and it's all your
state of mind, at the end of the day, you
just gotta say it's alright!
