the bottom row of keys(z-?) on my ibook (500mhz g3) refuse to respond when i hit them. This has been going on for a few months, but I was able to get it to work if the keyboard wasn't locked into place, but this fix isn't working anymore. Is there anyway to fix this without a new keyboard?

My old Dell Latitude used to do that too, except is was with vertical rows of keys, usually "8" "i" "k" and "," though other rows would go too. They way I sort of fixed it was to leave the screws off of the keyboard then lift the keyboard to put tension on the cable. What it seemed to be was that one of the connections was not being made all the time. Got to the point where if a key didn't work I would just lift the keyboard and continue on. If it does have to do with the cable you would have to get a new keyboard to fix it. I was saving for a new laptop at the time so I didn't bother.

It sounds like you might have a loose connector, or something. Is your computer under warranty?

The only thing you might be able to do short of sending it in is to get an external keyboard.

Sorry, don't know what else to tell you.

If you hop on eBay, you should be able to find an iBook keyboard pretty cheap ($25-$50?). Just pop the old one off, unplug the cable, and put the new one in. You can probably find more detailed instructions with a quick Google search.

Or, just take it in for warranty service, if applicable.
