Hello... I did a search for simular posts but couldn't find much to help me.

I have my PB connected to my LinkSys (WRT54G) router. My PC (XP PRO) is connected via cable to the back of the router. I cannot see either computer on both systems. I am new to mac's and would like to transefer files between both systems.

I bring up "network" and there is nothing there on my PB... On my PC I bring up "my network places" and again see nothing.

Thanks...

Easy enough - from your mac desktop, hit Cmd-K and then you'll be presented with the "connect to server" dialog box. In the address box type "smb://192.168.0.1/c$" where the IP is the IP of the windows box - and c$ is the name of the share on the windows machine. You may have to create a folder and then share it - although c$ is the default share for the root drive.

From the mac side, go to system preferences and choose the sharing icon. Enable windows file sharing -- the windows client can then select "start/run" and type in \\192.168.0.2\username" where the IP is the IP of your macintosh and the username is the short name for your login.

Enjoy!

After punching in the windows server ip and share (you might have to create a share - simply go to the windows explorer and right mouse click on one of the folders - even the root drive - and select properties/sharing), you'll be presented with the login dialog box.

Something like this: username, domain, password.

The username is whatever user name you're using with windows.
The domain is either the domain name if you are participating in a domain, or the machinegun name if not.
The password is the password, of course.

Try creating a new account under windows and give it the appropriate level of rights and then use that. if you have not created a user name, try user "administrator".

I don't know if its me or if it'ts the route I use to get onto my PC. So this is what I am doing...

1. CMD+K
2. Enter address smb://192.168.1.100/My Videos
3. Click "Connect" then get a error message saying my user name and password is wrong.

I never had the oportunity to enter my password.

Sorry for trouble.

Setup a share on the windows machine with no spaces in the name

smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/myvideos

it's failing because it thinks you are entering a user name of "videos"
