Alright, I have a 17" rev A powerbook with panther installed. I love panther, but at the same time hate it becasue of ONE flaw. If I ever sleep my powerbook and then wake it up the auto light up keyboard and screen dimming is disabled. They both say they are enabled in the system prefs, but when i cover up the speakers or even go into a dark room nothing happens. Logging in and out fixes the problem however. Anyone know of a fix for this very annoying problem.
Thanks, Justin

I have been truly enjoying the speed increase from Panther, I haven't noticed. Do you USE the keyboard lighting [I don't so even if it's true, it doesn't matter to me...]?

I use the light up keyboard almost everyday! I use this thing in my bed most of the time and the lights are usually dimmed real low or off to conserve energy and so the keyboard is almost always lit for me. So yes, I do use it.

I have this problem on my AL15". The way that I've found to correct it (I wouldn't really call it a "fix") is to put the 'book to sleep and wake it up, and usually the next time it wakes it's working.
I wish there was a permanent fix for this issue. I use my 'book to run video for a touring play and I do my preshow check with the house lights on, so I don't always notice that the keyboard lights aren't working until the show starts, and then it's too late to put the 'book to sleep. Besides, under any circumstances, it's just annoying to have to go through all that trouble for something that's just supposed to work. I'm surprised this wasn't in the first update of Panther.

I have this problem on my Al 15". I want it fixed.
I'll submit it to Apple's ADC bug reporter I guess...

The keyboard backlighting on my 17' stopped working. Everytime I pressed the function keys I would get the disabled icon. Tried rbooting, resetting the PRAM and even reinstalling Panther. I took it to the Apple store and they sent it off to Apple Care for service *sigh*. Alot of trouble for a little feature..

You can reset the PRAM by turning off the system and then turn it back on and hold APPLE (Command) + Option + P + R all at the same time. You dhould hear the startup chime if you hold them long enough, and hold them until you hear that chime once more. When thats all done let go of the keys and you have reset your PRAM.

I get this stupid problem sometimes. If I adjust the screen brightness, everything will start to lag, and it will take forever for the change to take affect, and then for the brightness symbol thing to go away. If I press it again, same thing happens.. everything gets qued up. It can go on like this for 10 minutes, during which time I'll sometimes end up with a black screen. Often I have to force the computer off.
Any ideas?

I have the same problem with my 15" Al. I leave it to sleep, then open it up and the lighted keyboard craps out. My solution is to turn the lighting off, then put the computer back to sleep, then open it up one more time, and it works.
On a side note though, I just realized how close attention to detail Apple pays... the bevels for the keyboard are more than just ergonomic... next time you're in a dark room, look at a key that you pressed. The entire side is bathed in light... it just looks spiffy.
