I recently updated my PB 667 DVI to 10.3 and for the first time ever, checked the modem specs as I was having (and still am) a hell of a time getting GPRS internet connection through my SE T610.

To my surprise, the modem was listed by System Profiler as MicroDash (V.92) Australia 7.0, when I had always assumed that the DVI only used V.90 (as stated in the Mac specs).

Can anyone tell me if this is a typo, or if some of the DVI's came with V.92 modems. And if so, what are exactly the advantages of the V.92? I recall having read somewhere that they allow caller ID and some other things, but I am not too sure.

Any ideas?

Just look under 'System Profile' > 'Hardware' > 'Modems'. It's under the blue apple right at the top left of your screen - 'About This Mac'.

Are you running 10.3?

And doesn't the 17" have V.92 by default anyway?

yes ... the 17in PB has a v.92.
but irrelevant to the OP.
sorry pal, don't know what modem your 667 has.

However there is one method to try this:
In the Internal Modem setup in the Network Pref Pane, it has a checkmark for "Notify me of incoming calls while connected to the Internet."

if you have this, then it's sopposed to be a v.92.

this, only in panther.

your profile for the modem looks fishy though ... why does it say that it is a USB modem anyway ?

Yes, I can check the "Notify me of incoming calls while connected to the Internet."
button, but I've dont that before and it doesn't seem to work. Or maybe I simply get too few phone calls to verify.

And by the way, how is your modem listed, if not USB? Maybe that's just the default nomenclature.
