So here's my story...

I bought my 15" AlPB a month ago and got a really good deal on it through my business sales guy at CompUSA. Now my friend wanted to get the same deal, so I contacted my CompUSA rep and ordered it. Then he called me right back and said, "I can't order that for you, Apple is no longer shipping us ANY 15" AlPBs".

His corporate office gave him no explanation whatsoever. This was last week. Since then my friend ordered it BTO from Apple.com and it's supposed to ship in 5-7 days.

I talked to my CompUSA guy again today and he confirmed that they are completely out of 15" AlPB's and he can't order any more. He said that if he didn't know any better an update was coming, but he has no confirmation at all.

Strange, huh? Has anyone else heard anything?

They're just working through the backlog with the "white spot" problem.

If you have an AppleStore nearby... recommend that you support them.

Nope, no Apple Store close by. As much as I like them, I get such a good deal at CompUSA, that I'd probably still buy from there though. However the only time I was at an Apple Store (Palo Alto) I bought an iPod and convinced my friend to buy an iPod and an iBook. Man I love that place!

Anyway, I guess my point is that the "official" word from my guy is not that there is a delay or anything else, but that they cannot order ANY new 15" AlPBs... at all. The only other time he's ever seen this type of situation is when an item has been EOL'd.

It might be nothing at all, but I've heard some other rather bizarre rumblings about a change to the 15" AlPB, so it is peaking my interest. Especially since I just bought one myself a month ago.

It's probably nothing though...

Maybe they are just trying to clear out the entire PowerBook line to get ready for the PowerBook Gee Five in January...

Before last week I would have laughed out loud at that... now I'm just kinda chuckling on the inside.

I'll keep updating this as I hear from my guy. The longer this freeze goes on, the more interesting it will be...
