My 12" PB finally arrived today, and I'm pretty happy with it overall, despite a dead pixel slap bang in the middle of the screen. I'm also a bit peeved that OS X won't recognise my (admittedly ancient) Agfa digital camera. Guess I'll just have to keep using my PC for photo editing.
The thing that really bothers me is that my PB won't recognise my brand new Lexar JumpDrive (128mb USB). Or rather, it sees it in the System Profile, but not in Finder nor in Disk Utility. I've done the immediately obvious things like rebooting. Not sure what else to do. The Lexar site says there are no drivers for OS X, it should be recognised automatically.
Guess I shouldn't have taken all that Mac propaganda so literally, about plugging things in and having them "just work"...

Are you plugging it in directly into the machine or are you going through a hub or other device? It doesn't make sense that it would show up in ASP and not in the Finder. Did you open up a Finder window? Do you have desktop disk icons turned off? This is really strange.

click on the Computer part. in 10.3, finder prefs, show Computer in the left column.
Then you should see it.
Lexar usually doesn't do braindead things that break what has worked in the past.

Almost right check removable disks in finder preferences.

Wait just one minute! Don't blame this on Mac, it's Lexar's issue. I've had three 256MB JumpDrive 2.0 Pro flash drives from them now, each next one to replace the earlier ones, and they have all been fussy about showing up in the Finder. Sometimes jiggling has helped, sometimes rebooting. I never ever have problems with my SD cards using my Zio! adapter. Lexar has been great about replacing it each time, but I want it to work and I don't believe it's Apple's fault. I have no problems with other USB devices, so I believe there's something wrong with the JumpDrive design, and this is an issue that Lexar has acknowledged.
So there (got that off my chest).
Also be sure the JumpDrive is totally unmounted before unplugging it. For some reason that device takes way too long to unmount and if you are only going by the Finder icon on the desktop you need to look at the "computer" level of the Finder to make sure the thing has unmounted.

It may be an issue related only to the 12" models (pb and ibook).
My ibook g4 also has problems seeing my pny USB 2.0 drive. The only way that i can get the drive to show up at all is to restart the machine with the drive attached.
Prior to finding that solution i noticed that my usb mouse would also die when I inserted the USB drive.
There was a post or two on the apple forums about users having similar problems as well.
