I pulled the battery, I pulled the cord, I held down the power button for 10 seconds. It's still asleep. What else can I try?

oh yeah, I always forget those things because holding down the powerbutton always worked before (and I preffer waiting a few minutes for a cold boot up, instead of restarting right away)

well obviously it did finally shut down. I guess the backup battery can keep it asleep for longer than I thought.

Anyone know what might have caused this? Did I mention I was typing something at the time it went to sleep (no work lost, but irritating nonetheless)?

Check Pram battery!

The display will not work with a completely dead Pram battery!

does that also explain why it wouldn't shut down? I forgot to mention I also tried the 3-finger-salute (with the power still on), to no effect

after about half an hour it did finally shut down, and after that (and before that for about 2 years) it has worked normally, so I don't think I have loose wires...
