This morning I tried to burn a CD using both Disk Copy and Toast on my TiBook 15"--however, when it asks for a blank disk and I insert one, the drive spins up the disk and makes a lot of humming and whisky noises for about 25 seconds, and then spits out the disk complaining that it is not valid.
It tried this with more than a dozen blank CD's, some of which work fine on another (external) burner, so I'm thinking perhaps there is something wrong with this PB's internal drive.

Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts as to what might me wrong, and if it is fixable?
BTW I should mention that the drives still functions perfectly to read from CD's and DVD's...

I've had and have the same problem. "Had" in that I've sent my TiBook 800 DVI (combo drive) back to Apple twice to have the drive repaired/replaced. It worked for a while each time, but then it was back to spitting out blank CDRs. I have an external Firewire CDRW, so I just use that to burn. I spoke to one of the Apple Geni(?) at the Tysons Corner Apple Store. He blamed it on the quality of the CDs. I purchased a few of the ones that Apple carries, but the same problem.

If you are stilll under Applecare, send it in for drive replacement. I plan to do so, but only at the end of my Applecare coverage and then only so protect what resell value this Powerbook might have in a year.

Never listen to an apple genius.

Guess what, I had the exact same problem for the past 6 months, but it went away as soon as I installed Panther. Weird, isn't it? Now it burns CDs just fine. Go figure.

Nevermind. Now mine isn't working again. I guess I'll send it in sometime when I get around to it.

I had this happen with my TiSD 1 GHz after installing Panther, by standard updating. I also had frequent crashes, freezes, directory errors, etc.

I finally did an "archive and install" of 10.3, and all my problems vanished. This is now the fastest and most stable Mac OS I've used (and I've used Mac since before OS 7!!)

What OS version are you using??
