So i opened my pbook today (867 mhz G4, 6 months old), and I heard a small pop...the area right above the left hinge is separating...

Its the metal that surrounds the bottom left corner of the lcd...its coming apart and the lcd itself is poking out.

Also the screen shows up light blue...with nothing else on it. The computer itself is fine, because when I hook it up to an external LCD it works perfectly.

The problem!

WHen i first bought my pbook I dropped it and it got a small dent on the left side in a similar area, but has worked perfectly since.

Any chance that the applecare techs might think that the dent and the metal-separation are related?

WHich would be better? taking it to a local place to get it serviced (tekserve here in NYC)? or sending it in to apple?

The drop really has nothing to do with the screen separation/malfunction but I am so afraid that they wont believe it.

Oh the humanity.

M2

Suggestions are appreciated.

I would call Apple first and tell them what's happened. This way, you can get an initial reaction as to whether they'd repair this under warranty. At that point, you can decide whether to have them send you a box or if you want to take it to a local repair center.

Either way, I think all PowerBook repairs have to go to service facility in TX.

I called apple and explained the whole thing. They said it would be covered, and sent a box out for it.

thanks for the advice

P.S. the local place confirmed what you said...that they would have to send it out for repair

No problem M2, good to hear that Apple's covering it under warranty.
