i just can't wait anymore. i have to tell someone or hear other people's stories.
i just ordered an iBook this past saturday (my first mac), and it says it will ship at the latest on thursday (12/11)
what is your experience ordering from the apple online store? does it ship soon? where does it ship from? my printer already shipped out and will be here wednesday! but the iBook order status still says "open. est. ship date 12/11"
i keep checking it like every 2 hours and it's killing me!
btw. i got everything standard + a 60 GB harddrive
i figure i'll upgrade RAM and get airport extreme as it becomes needed along with applecare if i choose to want it down the road.
thanks!

I think the drive upgrade is what lagged its delivery, but I agree that I will prolly just go to the Apple Store and buy an Extreme card along with Applecare so they can install my card while I wait.
You made a good choice. As they say, "Do or do not. There is no try."

You will enjoy your machine, but take my advice -- pimp it out. I have the 12" iBook G4, and got 640MB, 40MB HD, Bluetooth, Airport Extreme. Wireless networking is sooooo key. AppleCare too, very important, especially on a laptop.

I remembered I ordered mines on a Tuesday, and I was given an est. of that Friday on the same that I would be shipped out. Well it was shipped out that Friday and I got it on that Monday. From what I know of mines and from other users on this site, they're usually shipped from Taiwan.

Heh, I was lucky. Ordered min on a Thursday, chose free shipping and on Monday it was sitting at home waiting...Apple upgraded my shipping to FedEX 2Day Air for free. Nice.

Mine came from Taiwan, I think all the BTOs from Apple Store do. I believe mine shipped a day before the est. shipping date, but I can't remember. Everything was shipped in perfect condition even though it came from the other side of the world. Patience, read a book, cuz when your new computer comes, you won't have time to do anything else for a while.

yes,
this sounds good, but i'm realizing maybe i should have waited a bit.
see, i'm a college student, and finals begin this saturday (right around the time i'll be tracking the shipment, or playing with it)
so basically, i've screwed myself for finals! hehe, so maybe i don't want it to come soon

Just go out and watch a movie. Read a book or something. Your Ibook will get soon.. don't think about it! It feels great to see your ibook at your place unexpectedly.

I ordered an iBook G4/14"/640MB/60GB/AE/BT/AC on Nov.30. They said it would ship on or before Dec. 10. It was shiped from an Apple warehouse in California on 12/7. It is anticipated to be delivered in Florida on Dec. 10, via Fedex Ground. Hope it arrives on time.
Note however, that it was shipped from California, not Taiwan.

Hahaha, I know exactly what you're going through :-) I ordered my ibook g4 1 ghz Dec 1 Monday and got the ibook on Dec 5 Friday. But that included a one-day delay because I used my debit card and my bank refused the charges for security reasons. I've never charged such a big amount against my debit card. That delayed order processing by a day since I had to call my bank and let the transaction go through.
It will ship from Taiwan. The wait will be Soooo worth it, it was for me. I also ordered a 1 gig RAM from Transintl to upgrade the RAM. I figured if I'm going to do this, why not go all the way with memory ? :-) I've been struggling to take my hands off my iBook since. Smooth sailing so far, even the RAM passed Apple's hardware test (which will ship with your System Restore CDs) with flying colors (knock on wood!) Good luck and enjoy!!

omg omg omg, same here, haha. I Can't wait to get mine. It should get here on Friday. They shipped the wireless mouse a while ago and its already in my city but the fed ex tracking says "no customer or business closed". I really hope that doesn't happen with my Ibook.

Hey Dave,
You might want to upgrade the RAM right away. On my ibook g4, even with a 1 Ghz processor, the machine felt sluggish at 256 megs of RAM. My suggestion, to make the most out of your Mac, is to spend money on extra RAM. While we all love the Mac OS for its rich, user-friendly, intuitive interface, the OS is pretty RAM-hungry in my experience. If you get a 512 mb RAM and stick it in one of the memory slots, you'll definitely feel the difference. Apps like Photoshop will definitely require you upgrade your RAM right away.
Not sure what you're using your iBook for, but Apple Extreme is probably your next best bet after a RAM upgrade. My iBook would be almost of little value if does not let me do email, surf the Web, etc while being portable.
I also have a VAIO laptop with a Netgear PC card which has been rated quite highly by all the PC publications. It's quite uncanny at how sensitive it is in terms of picking up wireless signals and maintaining a solid connection, compared to other brands my friends use. And you know what? Apple Extreme is just as good in these 2 areas, and from a user-friendly interface perspective, it beats Netgear hands down. AE will pick up signals for you without any user intervention.
Anyway, you'll probably get your laptop any day now. Enjoy and welcome to "MacWorld" :-)

You think you've got problems!
I bought my iBook from a local reseller and had the package in my hands last Tuesday (2.12.2003). But due to purchasing arrangements with my parents-in-law it counts as a christmas present and I'm not allowed to OPEN IT UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!!

I ordered an iBook from Applestore UK on 1st December. The only xtra is the Bluetooth because it can't be added after except by occupying a USB port with a "dongle".
It "shipped" according to Apple's email and their online excuse for a tracking page the very next day.
three phone calls later and it seems that no one has any idea where it is. TNT worldwide has no record of it's existance. Applestore have tried to locate where it is to no avail, "it must be somewhere in Europe". I suggested that a replacement be despatched, and my request was refused.

Ordered a 12" iBook G4 last week with 60GB HD + Airport extreme. I selected the free ground shipping. It was shipped from Taiwan and arrived in 3 days!! I was amazed how fast the ground shipping is. There is no point of using more expensive shipping method.
By the way, I live in Maryland.
