I've had my new Powerbook just over a week and decided to mount my MDD hardrive on it's desktop. Bought a StarTech IEEE 1394 cable. The store didn't have a 9pin cable for the 800 port. It seemed to connect to the back of the MDD quite nicely and snug, When I went to connect to the PowerBook the cable was loose and would just fall away from the Powerbook.
I noticed that the 400 port connection seemed a little more recessed thant the other ports. Could this be the problem? Is there specific connector ends for the powerbook? Anyone else experience this? Needless to say I couldn't use the port.

The StarTech cable was the problem. should have known when they only charged me $9.95 for it. The plug ends on the cable are shorter the than the Belkin cable I got as a replacement. I'm not going to tell you what I paid for the Belkin, plus the 1hr drive to Dover to the Apple Store. As I was driving home I was so relieved not to have had to leave my powerbook for repair it dawned on me. Why didn't I get the Firewire 800 cable instead of the the 400. duh!!!
