I'm trying to convince my friend that the 12" is better than the 14" iBook...
Does anyone have anything to say about that?

For me 12" is the naturally choice because i value portability. but i mean, if your friend want a larger screen and a slightly faster cpu let him go for the 14" they're both great machines!

Well the resolution is 1024x768 on both.

if the ibook will be his only computer, id reccommend the 14" i have one, and i love it. i find that i have to squint less (even tho the res is the same) and that the 14" is plenty portable. not to mention that you can get a 1ghz 14"er. i feels more like a laptop. i dont know how to put it better. plus the batt lasts longer. if you have a tower, or another display at home, go with the 12" but if you plan to be looking at the ibook screen all the time, go for the 14"

I think I'd rather have the 14" for a couple reasons:
- my eyesight is not so good for reading, but okay for farther away objects/driving, so I'm too stubborn to wear glasses.
- the 14" would be a slight step up from the 13.8" viewable of my iMac, which is too small for me. The 12.1" is a significantly smaller screen.
I am concerned with the screen problems that iBooks have been known for. I'll probably get AppleCare.
I'm actually considering a G3 800 or 900 MHz, because I'd like the dual-boot option - I don't plan on running OS 9 often, but I'd like to continue using Virtual PC 3.0 and Virtual Game Station.

I just got my 12" two days ago and I love it. It is super-portable, lite, small, excellent! The screen is plenty big enough for word processing and surfing and games look good as well. Expose helps make the smaller monitor more functional. Oh yeah, then there is the cost issue. 12"=saving a couple hundred, or spending it on pimpin out the 12"
Bottom line, Get the 12".javascript :smilie(' ')

I have the 14" g4 ibook 933. I was thinking about getting the 12 but i was doing away with my desktop and this is my only computer now.
I know that if i still had my desktop and i was going to use the notebook for a 2nd computer i would have gone with the 12"
But i do Love my 14

12" all the way. the 14" doesn't look right. The entire bottom half looks like crap.
If you have really bad eye sight, get some glasses or contacts.
The 12" provides one of the sharpest portable screens apple has ever made, so why get a larger, clunkier version with the same res?
If the 14" had higher res and a better keyboard/ speaker layout, it would be an entirely different matter.

12" because it's just so portable.
If the 14" had higher resolution (say 1280x960) you could make a serious argument for it, but as it stands, you're getting the same real estate in a less portable package.

I go with the 14" simply because of the extra cpu , if the 12" came in 1Gz, I would have gotten that instead.

Abso 12". Portable and powerful enough, or as they say "Lug n' Chug". If I had only one computer (gasp) I'd bust out for a powerbook... or wait to see what the powerbook revs are gonna be.
Value portability over the extra smidge of visual screen real estate and slight nudge in processor power.

Personally, I think the bottom half of the 12" looks like crap -- looks too cramped and smushed together, with the keyboard going right to the edge and everything. It just doesn't look or feel right to me...

I've had a 12" for two years, and it's a phenomenal computer. The 14" to me is just bigger pixels and more weight, neither of which add value to me. I see fine, and the light weight has proven to be a benefit many times.

It's not the size that counts... it's how you use it!
12" vs 14"... hey, whatever turns your crank.

12" hands down.
the 14" is the same resolution, just with larger pixels.
I have had a 12" 500 mhz g3 ibook for 2 years now...I cannot speak more highly of it.
My sister in law has the 14". Something about they way they look just looks wrong in my humble opinion. She purchased it thinking the resolution was higher, but in fact the resolution is identical. She would have preferred a 12" had she known that.

14" gets my vote. Faster processor and bigger screen, I know the resolution is the same, but it still has more real estate. Also there is better space around the keyboard and a larger HDD as standard. Overall side by side it doesn't see much difference in size for portability. But in the end it's 'horse for courses', try both side by side and see which you prefer for your lifestyle/work etc
