It was worth the wait.

As some of you know, I waited a long time to get my 15" PB from the Apple Store.
After having a full day to play with it (I even took it to work), I've decided that there is nothing that I don't like about this machine.
The screen is perfect, as far as I can tell, the keyboard is solid, and the construction is excellent.
I'm not at all disappointed with my purchase, even though I was plenty upset about Apple's lack of attention to my order.
'Tis going to be a nice holiday season.

Glad to hear that there really was a machine for you out there somehwere--I was beginning to think that your story was straight from the "twilight zone." Kind of like Bill Murray in "Goundhog Day." You just keep going back in time and starting over. Anyway, keep us posted over the next few days with any comments on goods or bads. BTW, I assume the machine came with Panther loaded !?!

Combo-drive. I couldn't tell you anything about 256MB Memory, I got 512MB. 512MB seems to be sufficient for everything that I've done so far.

Zatt--what machine(s) have you owned recently? You referred to a IIc but didn't say what type of Windows (or other) system you were switching from.

I also own a home-built Pentium II PC. I do, sadly, also work on MANY Dell and Gateway PC's at my place of work, which are some pretty nice machines. (Ok, the Gateway machines aren't so nice.)
As a direct comparison goes, I just went to a friend's house where he was having a LAN party last night (after going to see the 'Return of the King' - AWESOME). I was impressed with the ease of use of the Apple compared to all of the PC's that I was networked with. The Mac just plugged in and was playing, without even a setting change nor an 'Ok' click. There were several PC's that couldn't quite get networked and all of them had to insert a disk or change a setting to get going. It was a cool feeling to say, "When are you guys going to be ready?" Especially after everyone said, "Don't get a Mac, you'll have all kinds of compatibility issues with the rest of us." (heh)
To rub salt in the wounds, my laptop ran several of the games we were playing better than a couple of 2GHz desktops.
Oh, and just to let everyone know, no 'white spots', heat, keyboard or latch problems, etc. I haven't found any flaws so far. It's a great machine. BTW: the keyboard on these things are extremely well built for ANY computer, not just a laptop.
(I had to look back to see if I answered the original question.)
Oh yeah, I still gave Apple a piece of my mind for making me wait two months. Just because this computer is a dream to use, doesn't let them off of the hook for that one.
