Like many iBook owners, I have been plagued with the logic board issue.

I am in a unique situation where I will have applecare but not the iBook and I was wondering if it is possible to transfer it to another person/ computer. I know I can get a refund...but because of the iBooks affinity to visit apple repair depots, I don't think I will get much of a refund if any! I have called Apple 3 times, and I get a different answer each time. One person says I can do whatever I want with the policy (sell, trade, give it away, etc.) Another tells me that I can't transfer it unless it is attached to the same computer...but when my 1st iBook was replaced with another, they had no proble, transferring the Applecare. And ther 3rd guy had no clue and told me I can't even get a refund.

Question 2.

If I get a refund, Apple states in their terms that the refund will be prorated, there will be a 10% or $25 fee and they will deduct the cost of any repairs made. After 6 logic boards...I don't think I would get a refund of any amount...but - Wouldn't I be right if I said that all of the repairs were under the Apple 1 year wattanty and subsequently most of (if not all) of the logic board repairs were within their 90 day warranty?

I appreciate your input...and if I can transfer it, I will be pretty much giving it away CHEAP if anyone is interested.

Basically, I wouldn't bother with the refund, but I'd jump on teh bandwagon for this class action lawsuit about this very issue.

AppleCare is attached to a specific computer, by serial number. If you sell the computer, the AC transfers with it. If you have not registered the AC, you can sell it, and that party can then register it, provided their machine is less than one year old.

If you have sent in the card that came in the box, it is registered to your machine, and can not be transferred or sold. It's stuck with your machine.

since i had the infamous screen problem 2 weeks ago, i am thinking about getting apple care. ($250?!?!?!)

my questions are:
1.) does anyone know, if it matters where (as in which country) i buy the apple care?!
i didn't have a problem getting it repaired (knock on wood) in south africa, even though i bought the ibook in germany.
since i'm already in the us right now, i'd like to buy it here (cheaper.)

2.) would my (newer) ipod be covered with the same apple care for the ibook?! or would i have to get a seperate one for it?!

thankies!
i can't find the answers on apple.com...

AppleCare is international; if you buy it in the U.S., it will cover your iBook worldwide. Your iPod will not be covered. Apple now offers a separate iPod AppleCare, for two year's coverage.
