i am not sure why this is happening or if this is something normal but a friend of mine has a ibook g4 and she is telling me that when she puts in the power cord there is a x on the battery icon supposedly it can't charge so she bought a new battery but the same thing again. Any suggestions ladies and gentlemen?

My bet is the PMU on the motherboard. It does that when it doesn't recognize there being a battery present, regardless of charge.

boot into open firmware (hold command-option-O-F during boot) and enter the following commands:

I'm getting the same problem on my iBook 12 800mHz and have tried both the battery update and the firmware commands...any other suggestions or ideas as to what's going on?

Resetting the PMU seemed to fix it...
