Can anyone tell me if this is normal. Say for instance when I am downloading someting the harddrive will start ticking. Well it happened with my first 15" al pb, but it didn't happen with my 2nd and 3rd replacements.
Does anyone elses powerbook do this?

If you mean the sound of the heads moving, well, yeah, if it's quiet enough in the room you'll hear that..

One of the hardest things to do on a board is to describe a sound. Read the threads long enough and one will run into people who mistake their hard drives for fan noise. Why? Because describing a whirl is very difficult to do.

As to the ticking, yes drives make noise and it varies from brand to brand and drive to drive. I've had huge ticks on iMacs before their hard drives failed. And there are just some drives that make noise when reading and writing.

I suggest you get a utility that can access the drive's built in diagnostics and run it. Drive 10 is a good one.

What are you talking about?
I Guess this ticking noise is driving me nuts. Think if I took my powerbook to the local apple store, with my old powerbook(the one I have to send back) That they would swap harddrives for me?
