I was trying to burn a cd-r full of data files when i found that the supposed "700mb/80min" cd-r only had 660.2MB available to be burned.

I'm fairly certain that the cd-r's are alright because i've been burning data on them from my PC at or a little above 700mb/80min.

Would this be because the combo drive only allows for a max of 660mb of space to be burned?

or is it a software issue?

anyone?

oh, i've tried several different cd-r to see what the capacity was, but they all showed as 660mb.

edit:

btw, i've noticed that the combo drive has no problems reading cd-r's with more than 660mb of data.

There's some stuff about "capacity" vs. "formatted capacity." Unfortunately I think Finder does this if you try to burn a CD from Finder. But I have no problems burning 700MB CDs in Roxio Toast Titanium. Basically, it's the software, not the hardware, telling you that the CD can only hold 660 MB (even though it can actually hold 700 MB). Burning in Finder is slow anyway - you have to copy everything and THEN burn.

"That's Mama Luigi to you, Mario!" *wheeze*
