As I understand it the USB ports on my G3 iBook 800 are USB 2.

I'm looking to purchase a Minolta film scanner (Dimage Dual 3) which purports to connect via USB 2.

However looking through the fine print I see that for the Mac OS the scanner only uses USB 1.1

What's all that about then? If both devices have USB 2 why must the device use USB 1.1 to connect to Macs?

all G3-series ibooks have USB 1.1 ports. it is only the newer G4-series ibooks that have USB 2.0 ports. of course, you can use USB 2.0 devices with USB 1.1 ports, though they will transfer data more slowly.
