Strangest thing. I'll be calling Apple in the morning, but I was wondering if anyone else with a G4 ibook has had this happen to them. I've had the 800 Mhz 12" ibook for three weeks, and it's been absolutely fine. Then all of a sudden today it stops recognizing my password, then the screen goes blank. I push the power button and nothing happens. No hard drive whir, no music, nada. It's dead, Jim.
Anyone have any idea why this happened? Bad logic board? Panther-related? Bad battery? Sunspots?
I'm just happy the ibook's still under warranty. It makes me rethink the whole Applecare thing. At first I wasn't going for it. Now I'll pick it up before my 90 days runs out. I heard you can get a good price on ebay.

The 90 days is for the phone support. You still have another 275 days of non-phone support warranty for bad hardware.
Have you tried a PMU reset?

I don't know why this has happened to you, but to get it working again, try disconnecting the AC power, removing the battery, waiting 30 seconds, putting the battery back in, reconnecting the AC, and then pressing the power button. I've had my new iBook G4 not wake up from sleep once, and this is what I had to do to wake it.
As far as AppleCare, you should definitely consider it. AppleCare on my iBook G3 got me a new battery, a new Airport card, and technical help when my hard drive got corrupted. I definitely got my money out of it.

Thanks. That's exactly what the Apple tech person walked me through to get my ibook out of it's "coma" sleep. And I'm definitely going for Applecare.

When my G4 iBook 933 wouldn't wake up the Apple tech had me hold down the start button for 5 seconds then push the start button again to restart. Same effect, just a little quicker...
Is failing to wake up from sleep a common problem?
