Doesn't seem like a political issue.

It's a neocon plot.

Oh wait. Did you realize you were posting in the Pol/War lounge?

Probably WMD. Take it to your nearest liberal safe-house and they will protect it from any attempts to remove them.

Or it could be due to that Canadian-introduced Mad cow disease affecting your iBook?

It's obvious that the disease is spreading... can we have samples of your brain and spinal cord fluids? Can you tell us if your brain feels more squishy than normal?

And now for the non-political replies.

I have the same problem. After a certain amount of uptime on my iBook (800MHz G3; 10.3.2) some functions stop working. These include: the "About This Mac" dialog, the shutdown/restart/sleep dialog you get from pressing the power button, and logout, shutdown, and restart as chosen from the Apple menu. Apps that require me to restart (Software Update, Installer, etc.) can't actually make me restart. The only way I can restart without cutting power or giving the three-finger-solute is to run "sudo reboot" in the Terminal.

According to top in the Terminal, loginwindow jumps in processor usage when I open About This Mac. So I guess these are all symptoms of a problem with loginwindow. What third party software do you have installed that uses kexts or other stuff in /System/Library? The only one I have is Stuffit Deluxe.
