I've now had my iBook G4 for nearly a week, and I've got some observations to make.
First, it does creak some. The left side by the ports seems like it could have used another screw. Not a big deal, it doesn't bother me. Also, on the side of the display, near the top on the left side if i push on it, it kinda slides in and creaks... Like I said, its not a big deal.
Second, I love the touchpad. I was messing with my grandpa's dell for his job, and the trackpad is horrible compared to mine. I love it. I also love the keyboard. The size and firmness is perfect. Only when i'm very tired to the keys seem to be too small.
I love the way it's able to handle Age of Empires 2 with no hesitation whatsoever. It is sweet.
It does everything so fast compared to my PC. Startup and restart and every other task are not agonizing at all.
I love having 1.2 days worth of music... And thats not even a lot.
I don't like not being able to right click. Even with my microsoft USB mouse i can't get it to work... is it possible?
Dead/stuck pixels-- If i touch the monitor where they are, they go away. and i have the special solution crap to clean the screen so it all works out.
Only had one problem the whole time with my baby mac. Last night i was laying on my bed, and it did the turning the monitor off because it's inactive thing... And I came back and touched keys, and it didn't come back to life. So i shut the lid, and the screen turned on, but so did the sleep light next to the latch. and when i opened it, it was still dead to rights. so i hit the power button, and it made the start up sound. Really an odd experience.
Airport is the greatest thing ever. no questions asked. Wireless internet is just... great.
All in all, i love this computer, and I am preaching the word of the mac to all that will listen.

I have heard the word!
Congrats!... I love mine too.. for work or play, it rocks! Where ever I go, it is with me. Just to add to your list... I got Bluetooth option in mine.. and next to wireless internet... wireless mouse is just.... great!
As for your question about the MS mouse... yes... right click is possible, but you will need to install the driver for it from the CD, assuming it came with one.... I'm just speaking from personal experience with my USB MS mouse for my clamshell.

Can't comment on the mouse, but the Mac OS standard "right click replacement" is to hold the ctrl button while clicking. I'm left handed, so it's pretty easy for me to do this with one hand on my iBook. Your mileage may vary.

my Kensington USB Orbit Trackball can easily right-click. Perhaps your mac hates M$ like mine does.

I have my Microsoft optical USB mouse plugged into my iBook and right click and scroll work just fine.
The left side of my iBook squeaks, too. I think everyone's does.
I agree that the iBook's keyboard is awesome!

I think the right click might be broken on the mouse... I'll have to check on that. Shows you how great microsoft is.

logitechs "mouse for laptops" is excellent, about 39 bucks. Wireless and optical. I am right-shift-clicking myself silly with this thing.
On your screen / wake up issue, , may be isolated, but keep an eye on it. The G3's have a design flaw reference to the wiring through the hinge causing screens to go black, and other problems.
It is not known if Apple fixed the problem with the G4 ibook, but I really doubt it as they haven't even admited the problems with the G3 yet, but they will.
In anycase enjoy your machine

It wasn't a screen position thing, it was just nuts. My guess is maybe overheating... But I don't know.

FYI my 3-button Kensington Optical PilotMouse works great with my G4 iBook/Panther. DO NOT install the supplied Kensington drivers though. Caused me problems. Panther's native drivers work great with it.
Good luck!

got it at the apple retail store for 29.99. Picked up Warcraft III from amazon for 12 dollars. And my iBook runs them both flawlessly. just not at the same time. haha.

No Mac drivers yet for the diNovo keyboard set, so the keypad display will be pretty useless for now.
