I know I'm beating this time worn issue to death but I gonna take one last hit. Looking at the informal poll on this board, and adjusting the negative results downward by 5%, roughly 35% of new Al 15 users have a screen issue, including this user. Lets include another 10% as having battery problems. Some PB's suffer from both issues. You do the math. I think I'm being generous with the battery issue as I've read the manual and the Al 15 PB should be shipped with ab 46mah battery. Clearly, most capacities I've read about on this board are significantly less than 46mah.
I use my PB at work. It's not a supplement to a desktop at work. It is my desktop. Being without my PB for a week or more would be more than just one huge pain in the ass. The prospect of zeroing out the drive and the subsequent network reconfigure and application reinstalls would just plain suck. I wish I had a workaround but I don't. I just don't have a Back-up PB.
I could take the view I could have received the one in ten-thousand lemon and and suck it up just like I did on my 20" Apple Display with the bad pixels not quite in the middle but close enough to encroach on the bottom of web pages. I've admonished others here about life's imperfections. Clearly, my Al 15 has been a disappointment when it could have been so much more.
So, given the percentages, skewed in Apple's favor what would be the appropriate remedy?
AppleCare or new rev PB. Biding my time before complaining to Apple.

How can it have long battery life with all that heat? Granted the heat is most apparent on the power adapter ... but mine stays so hot that the LCD panel hinges now squeak when the LCD is repositioned.
'Still love my machine ... but I really hope Apple eventually gets it all sorted out.

New 15" PB owner here...seeing all of these issues has me wondering about my machine...
Good thing I got AppleCare for this one...considering I've been screwed over for problems with my other two iBooks.

They've hosed you twice in the past, so you responded by given them even more money this time?

I'll poke my nose in here. I was hoping to generate a discussion on appropriate remedies from Apple. I was wondering what the homeboys we thinking in terms of the Al 15's
difficulties. Inconveniences aside, what is in Apple's best interest? Are we looking at another iBook fiasco or something less than that. It seems us loyalists are willing to accept most anything from Apple these days. I still have not read anything on the the limited battery capacities occuring across the board in
the Al 15 books. Why do we accept a 4200 mah capacity when 4600mah was sold and purchased? Just curious about the group mindset.

Yeah, I got hosed for NOT having AppleCare...
Paying $350 for an extended warranty is CERTAINLY a lot better than paying $600 for an out-of-warranty replacement with no guarantees.

I hope our 15" PB's don't turn into another iBook fiasco. I'm knocking on wood, but to read about the white spots, battery failures, and adapter wire strain failures really concern me as to whether I bought another lemon.
Some of the apologists brushing these issues off make me wonder if they have a shrine to Steve Jobs near their desks. Clearly Apple QC has gone downhill these days.

Mine is a genuine POS. Just look at my sig, thats just the start of my problems. Looking forward to my "switch" back to a PC laptop. I will say, when my PB works, its great...and its beautiful to look at, a beautiful $3000 junker

15" PB/1.25 G4/1gb ram/80gb hd/Superdrive
+ special screen with white spots AND dimmer right side than left. 2 Keyboard replacements, warping Al case wobbles on a flat table, squeeks when typing...etc.etc.etc. Superb!

Take it to you nearest AppleStore ... hopefully one is near ... talk up how much you love it, be nice to the Genius, patiently explain your machine's woes ... works for me
But they haven't reduced the HEAT ... or am I still trying to justify a stand? The only one I like still appears to not be in production
