I have had many problems with my early rev powerbook similar to Scott. It seemed to be going back every 4 months even though I took great care of the whole thing.
Apple finally has agreed to replace it, and I am not sure how much time, effort and money I should expend before I send it back.
It was originally equipped as a:
G4/400/128/10 gig
I gave the original 10 gig away to a buddy who needed a drive after putting in a 40GB / Travelstar 5400 GNX drive. It's also got 768 mb of ram as well as an Airport Card.
It's obvious the ram and card are now incompatible with the new machine they are sending me. I also want to keep the drive. It cost me an arm and a leg when I bought it and would be useful in transporting my data to the new machine.
Should I send it in with no drive? how about asking them for an AE card since mine won't work with the new machine. I think the guy I spoke with mentioned the machine I will be getting in return have 512 of ram.
What does apple do with the machines that come back? I don't want to have to spend tons of time surfing ebay for a drive for apple to just throw it aside.
Suggestions?
