Yes, I have it to. Its on the right hand side, just below the center. The reason why it is intermittant, is because it depends on the color on the screen. You will notice it most when there is black over it. Right now, if I look for it, it is slightly green, but hardly noticable.

i got the same one red pixel on my right side a little above center. I usually never notice it unless (like said above) there is black behind it but right now i can't even see it. I guess all LCD's can't be perfect or the prices would be insane.

Just sounds like a stuck pixel. They can't be avoided unless you want astronomical LCD screen prices. Apple generally requires about 5 stuck/dead pixels before they'll replace the screen. Anything less than that is "within specification."
If you gently rub the area around the pixel, you might be able to bring it back to life. If that doesn't work, you'll just have to live with it. It's the nature of the beast.

ack! is there any way to avoid more dead pixels? can they be caused by manhandling?

They're just a natural occurrence due to the manufacturing process. The iBook screen has 1024x768 resolution, which is 786432 pixels. It's hard to make 786,432 of something high tech in a small space and have them all come out perfect.
