Divided between 14"/933 G4 iBook and GRT 250 VAIO (Celeron; 15", 2GHz, 40GB, 512RAM). One thing going for Sony is the XBRITE technology they use for their displays. It looks really crisp and soothing. Having read about some problems related to iBook's displays, VAIO seems to have the edge. I am in grad school, so I will have to spend a lot of hours with my laptop preparing the thesis. How eyes-friendly is the iBook? And how do the two compare in durability (I've read endless threads about iBook's hinge problem)? I am also interested in video editing and again Sony's larger good-looking display seems to have the avantage. And the two are similarly priced... What side are you on?

you can't really compare the two. if you want os x, then get the ibook. if you can put up with xp's virus problems, general look and feel, or feel like wrestling with linux to get your work done then get the sony. simple as that.

I am a long-time Windows-user, but love OS X. It seems fresh and original, while Windows became just boring. However, choosing Mac just because of the OS does not seem to make sense to me.

what do you mean? with mac, you have no choice, except within apple's hardware lineup. so if you choose OS X, you choose the mac hardware too. separating the decision makes little sense imo.
also, i don't think you'll find many people here, if any at all, who are familiar with the sony in question first hand.
