so i unplugged my ibook for about 10 minutes to check out my new wirless connection. i come back to my desk, plug in the cable and i notice there is an X over my battery icon. someone tells me to push the button on my battery and see how many lights come up - none do. so i have it plugged in right now, and the light is green, not even orange like it's charging ..and if i click on the icon it says "no batteries available"

..help?

Yep, I had the same problem with my iBook. I could get the battery "back" by shutting down and reseating the battery. After reboot, the battery indicator would then show a charge, and the iBook would operate unplugged. But it was only temporary. After waking up from an overnight sleep the iBook wouldn't recognize the battery.

Chances are the battery is toast. I had mine replaced without any problems by my dealer. Luckily my iBook was still under warranty (by a month). Some dealers may give you a hard time about it, saying that batteries are consumable items. But if your iBook is still under warranty you should be able to get it replaced.

Here's a tip...at the dealers, try your battery in one of their iBooks. That's the test they did and when it wouldn't even start (even though the battery showed a full charge), they replaced it, no questions asked.

All is good now. Good luck. I hope your iBooks are still under warranty or AppleCare.

Man Just started to have this problem, like about an hour ago. I have my laptop plugged in now and it says the battery is charging but it can't figure out how long its gonna take to fill it.. that'll probably go away in a couple of minutes and start saying the battery is disconnected. Really sucks, not sure if I'm gonna bother replacing it yet, don't use battery power that much.

But I am gonna say Apple is good about replacing batteries. This is my second one. Last June I walked into an Apple Store with my battery lasting 15 minutes on a full charge, walked out with a new battery 20 minutes later.
That was when I still on my first year but I didn't buy the apple care

Oh... there goes the battery... crap thought this sucker woud've lasted 9 months.

My battery was dead for two months, seems to be behaving itself again.
