Hi all,

If I purchase a Powerbook today, through
say Amazon.com, will I be able to get a copy of iLife '04, if I goto the apple store and show my reciept or if I call Apple.com? Or do I need to purchase from apple?

A Quote from Apple:
Customers who purchase a qualifying new Macintoshcomputer on or after January 6, 2004 that does not have iLife included can upgrade to iLife '04.

Just goto apple's up to date website: http://www.apple.com/ilife/uptodate/

iLife is free with a machine purchase, the bundle to buy is $49. Previously this was basically a fee for iDVD... the others you could download for free.

...or something like that!

iLife 4 is "free" for anyone who buys a Mac on or after 6 January. I say "free" because it won't necessarily ship with iLife 4, you may find you have to apply for the upgrade. You won't have to pay for the upgrade - but you will have to pay a $20 'handling fee'. See the iLife 4 site.

The rest of us will have to pay $49 for these patches, er I mean upgrades.

This is incorrect. Apple has had the "up-to-date" program for their OS upgrade too. I paid the $20 and upgraded to Jaguar when I first got my Mac. According to Steve & Co., the iLife is FREE with a "Mac purchase." The up-to-date fee of $20 you are referring to is if you were to purchase a Mac today or before the release of the iLife suite on Jan.16. If you were to do that then you could get the iLife suite for $20.
